World Habitat Day

October 13, 2018

World Habitat Day is observed every year on the first Monday of October throughout the world.  It was officially designated by the United Nations and first celebrated in 1986. This year the focus of World Habitat Day celebrations were to take action to address the municipal solid waste management challenges. It also decided to reflect on the state of our cities and towns and the basic human right to adequate shelter. On this day children in some of the government schools where ALIG works, expressed their views on having a peaceful habitat for all, through drawings and paintings, showing the importance of shelter for all. The students were also reminded that all of us have the power and the responsibilities to shape the future of our cities.
