International Literacy Day which is celebrated annually on 8th September, is an opportunity for everyone to highlight improvements in world literacy rates and reflect on the world's remaining literacy challenges. Literacy is the bridge from misery to hope, that will bear fruitful results for a lifetime. It is a day that highlights the fact that every individual irrespective of caste, class, color has the right to education and the right to be liberated. Principals, Teachers and Students of Government Schools where ALIG is involved, communicated the importance of reading and writing to individuals and local communities thru workshops and meetings. Children made pictures related to this and took an oath to teach those who were illiterate in their communities and to inspire out of school children to come back to school.
